Through the V Team (volunteers) at The University of Essex, children at Broomgrove Junior School are lucky enough to be linked to Global Voices. These are international students who visit our children in school to tell them about their home country and their language. They play games and teach a few words and phrases to give our pupils a taste of a different language and culture. We do this every Spring Term.
The children always enjoy this and the students have pronounced Broomgrove their favourite school to visit because of the welcoming atmosphere and the enthusiasm of our brilliant pupils!
Porridge and Pens
In November 2016, Jemma Williams (who was a student at the Colne Community School) came to tell us about the charity she has set up in Ghana. Jemma is now a teacher and her charity is called Porridge and Pens. Jemma has set up a school to enable children in Kumasi, Ghana to get an education. Without her school named 'Brightlingsea School', this would not be possible for these children.
Every year, our children take part in the campaign Send My Friend to School which aims to lobby world leaders to provide all children in the world who are under 15 with an education. Our children feel passionately about this and each year, they have lobbied our government to support this United Nations global goal.
The children would like to support Brightlingsea School in some way so please, watch this space!
